‘In Harmony’ - Lynne Purrington, Kathy Welden, Lynne Taylor
We are three friends who have known each other for at least 20 years. We all belong
to the Tiverton Amateur Operatic Society and our group sprang out of a friendship
and love of singing, and we actually enjoy meeting up to practice – which helps!
We sing quite a variety of music in three-part harmony but we mainly concentrate
on the 1930’s and 40’s.
- We sang with the Exeter Police and Community Choir in March 2007 at the New Hall
to raise money for the Exeter Multiple Sclerosis Charity.
- We sang at Bolham House for the NSPCC in July 2007– this was a true test of endurance
as what should have been an evening of music set in beautiful surroundings, turned
out to be an evening of umbrellas and Wellington boots; however the show went on!
- We entertained at a Murder Mystery Evening at Bickleigh Castle in December 2007.
- We sang as a supporting act with ‘Brotherhood of Man’ in March 2008.
- We sang with a local jazz band ‘Steam City’ at Bickleigh Castle in July 2008
- We gave our own concert in June 2009 to help raise money for Holcombe Burnell Church
near Exeter.
- We also sang, in June, for a ‘party in the park’ at Bridgwater with a 20-piece swing
band ‘Boulevard Swing’
Our pianist Bridget Tosh is invaluable in helping us to learn our harmony’s and gives
us great support; what would we do without her?
